Townsville teacher's tips on regional work and living
Early childhood teacher Kylie Ryan of Goodstart Kirwan Golf Links Drive shares her insights.
At Goodstart Point Cook - Shaftsbury Boulevard, we believe early learning should be inclusive, empowering, and deeply connected to the world.
Our warm and welcoming centre is proudly embedded in the vibrant Point Cook community and offers exceptional early learning and long day care for children from nursery to kindergarten.
With Exceeding ratings across four National Quality Standards and a passionate, longstanding team, we focus on providing every child with the best possible start in life.
We celebrate our diversity through a unique language program, foster social-emotional development with our puppet-led learning, and grow healthy habits from the ground up with our garden-to-plate program. Book a tour and see it firsthand.
What makes our centre special:
At our centre, culturally inclusive programs are embedded into daily routines so that every child feels a sense of belonging, no matter their home language or background.
Our Little Language Explorers program runs daily across all rooms. It provides children consistent access to age-appropriate language learning through nursery rhymes, writing, and reading in funded kinder.
We also have a social-emotional learning program that uses puppets to build emotional intelligence, empathy, and resilience. It supports children in recognising and managing their feelings, developing peer relationships, and practising calming strategies.
Our centre also proudly connects children to the natural world through ‘Plant to Plate’. In this program, children grow, harvest, and cook food alongside chef Priscilla, learning the value of sustainability and healthy eating.
We invite you to book a centre tour today and experience what makes Goodstart Point Cook - Shaftsbury Boulevard a special place to grow, learn, and belong. Can't find a tour time that suits you? Contact us to arrange a personalised visit.
At Goodstart Point Cook - Shaftsbury Boulevard, our philosophy centres around the belief that every child is a unique individual with their own interests and strengths. We embrace a play-based learning approach that nurtures curiosity and creativity, allowing children to explore their world in meaningful ways.
We prioritise:
Through our philosophy, we aim to create a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive and become confident, capable learners.
Children need to feel safe and supported to learn and grow, so we promote key educator relationships between our educators and children. Your child will have at least one educator (their key educator) who takes them under their wing and really gets to know them.
Our Key Educator relationships help children form secure attachments. Educators work closely with smaller groups and individual children to better understand each child. These relationships lead to improved outcomes for children as we foster more communication between families and educators.
We inform families regularly about their child's progress and welcome family involvement in our centre events and activities.
At our Point Cook - Shaftsbury Boulevard centre, we're proud to inspire your child's love of learning with the support of our passionate and qualified early childhood experts. Teachers with bachelor's degrees run our three and four-year-old kindergarten program, so children can be well on their way to excellent learning outcomes by the time they start school.
At Goodstart, we believe all children deserve the best possible start in life, which includes access to high-quality early childhood education and care. We offer:
We work closely with parents to ensure the individual needs, interests and strengths of children are considered, and our learning goals reflect them. Using StoryPark, a wonderful communication platform, we stay in close touch with families and ensure you're well informed about your child's development and achievements.

Excited to Be Back!
For those who don’t know me, I’ve been away on maternity leave and returned in late March 2025. I’m super excited to be back, and I’d like to take a moment to reintroduce myself.
I’m excited to share that I have my Diploma in Early Childhood Education and have been working in this wonderful field since 2010! Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing many different roles, and I’m so proud to support a team of dedicated Early Learning Childhood Professionals. We are all passionate about delivering high-quality care and love connecting with children and their families to build those special relationships that matter so much!
Working with children is one of the most rewarding experiences, as there's nothing quite like witnessing their growth and being a part of their journey.
I am eager to support your child's learning adventure and warmly welcome your family to our centre!
