Townsville teacher's tips on regional work and living
Early childhood teacher Kylie Ryan of Goodstart Kirwan Golf Links Drive shares her insights.
At Goodstart Frankston South-Stotts Lane we strive to provide educational programs that are responsive to the children’s interests and knowledge. We strive to provide enriching and welcoming learning environments that allow the children to feel safe, secure and supported to learn and grow to their full potential. We strive to foster respectful relationships with our families and wider community by providing a welcoming and safe environment for all. Educators’ interactions with children are warm and positive, to support children to develop a sense of attachment and trust with their learning environment. We place a high value on building strong trusting bonds with the children and their families through our key educator relationships. We endeavor to promote inclusion and respect for all cultures within our centre thereby supporting the children’s sense of identity and wellbeing. We are constantly building on our implementation and celebration of different cultures and heritages within our centre and the wider community.
We strongly believe in the benefits of embedding sustainable practices in the early years. We aim to provide children with a connection to nature by scaffolding the children’s understanding on the importance of the natural world around us. We foster this connection to the natural world by creating open-ended learning using loose parts and experiences set up in both the indoor and outdoor environments, we also include regular bush kinder outings into our early year's curriculum. We believe in championing and modelling a culture that promotes and protects the safety and wellbeing of the children in everything we do.

'We are so great full for the quality of care that is given to our child. The educators are so friendly and show that they have a great connection with my child. My child comes home singing songs she’s learnt in care and rhymes from books. She loves talking about all her friends there and the educators too. We feel very lucky to have such amazing educators looking after our little girl." (Maddy and James) - Toddlers
"In the nursery, I believe the educators have gone above and beyond to connect and understand my son, Henry. Always filling me about his successes/challenges and telling me of his adventures each day." (Sheridan) Nursery
I have been the Director here since July 2020 and have over 19 years of experience in Early Learning Centres.
Being able to support children’s learning and development is one of the privileges of working with young children. Research shows quality early learning during the first 5 years are important in achieving better learning outcomes for children and at Stotts Lane we recognise that every child is on their own unique journey.
I believe in providing children with opportunities for unstructured play in natural environments, where exploration invites children’s curiosity and is child-led. Excursions in the outdoors supports this style of play-based learning and helps to instil a love of nature in children, our future caretakers of the planet. At Stotts Lane we aim to provide this type of learning regularly.
We are fortunate at Stotts Lane to have a highly skilled and qualified team with many long-standing team members who have been with Goodstart for over 10 years. I’m a big advocate for Professional Development and support our Centre team in working towards higher qualifications or upskilling their professional knowledge to better support the children in our community.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
