Townsville teacher's tips on regional work and living
Early childhood teacher Kylie Ryan of Goodstart Kirwan Golf Links Drive shares her insights.
Goodstart Cockburn Central is a 99-place centre offering our families flexibility and quality care. Our centre is located in a convenient spot, close to residential areas, as well as shopping precincts, public transport and freeways.
We have been a part of the local community since 2006, providing early learning and care for children aged from six weeks to five years.
Our centre offers a safe, inviting and stimulating environment with a wonderful team of experienced educators to nurture and support each child’s learning journey through their early years.
Our rooms from Nursery to Kindergarten are set up in line with an Early Years Learning Framework, with sensory and play based learning opportunities. Colourful, stimulating surrounds ensure the children have the chance to grow and develop through sensory, play-based learning; and we are focused on ensuring the children are ready to take that all important step up to school.
Meals are provided and our onsite qualified cook creates fresh and nutritious meals daily, catering for all dietary requirements. Our Open Door Policy offers families and community members the flexibility in touring our service and for our breastfeeding parents – we have a beautiful and peaceful secluded space in the Nursery room to support this.
Our Storypark platform, as well as regular family nights and emailed newsletters, enable us to stay in close contact with parents and families, ensuring open and clear communication. This also means we can tailor each program to the child’s individual needs, interests and strengths – as well as the strong level of cultural diversity in our centre.
Outside, we have a vast playground area - with a balance of natural and manmade elements and play surfaces – which were designed in consultation with the children and their families. This is a space the children have taken a real ownership of and it shows every single day when our activities take us outdoors.
We have carefully designed and planned spaces to encourage a stronger understanding of the environment and sustainability – while giving children the scope to explore, play and let their imaginations roam.
Community is also important to us and through visits to the centre and participation in events and activities throughout the year, we are able to enrich the learning experience. Art and music experiences are provided on a daily basis which allow the children to freely express their creativity.
Family engagement is important to us and we recognise the individual needs of each of our families. We have established a variety of methods to interact with our families including verbal and written communication, and bilingual educators to support the needs of our diverse community.
We look forward to meeting you and your family and exploring how we can work with you to set your child on a wonderful pathway of lifelong learning.
All the staff have been a wonderful part of my daughter’s development. It’s been like a second home since she was 18 months old .
