Townsville teacher's tips on regional work and living
Early childhood teacher Kylie Ryan of Goodstart Kirwan Golf Links Drive shares her insights.
Goodstart Early Learning Child Care Centre Mill Park - University Drive is situated behind McDonald's on Plenty Road, Mill Park. Our centre is not far from the Western Ring Road and is only a short trip from Westfield and University Hill shopping centre. The centre is near public and private schools, shops and RMIT University.
Our highly experienced, qualified and long-standing educators and teachers provide high quality care to our children and provide their families a warm and nurturing environment.
Engaging learning spaces:
At Goodstart University Drive, Mill Park, we strive to provide a safe, peaceful and natural environment that engages children's five senses, provoking wonder, curiosity and intellectual engagement.
Our centre is purpose built, with colourful and stimulating surrounds ensure the children have the chance to grow and develop ensuring all children are ready to take that all important step up to school. Inside, all of the rooms - from nursery to kindergarten - are all set up in line with an Early Years Learning Framework, with sensory and play based learning opportunities.
Our age-appropriate outdoor areas are purposely designed to enhance the children’s awareness of their surrounds and the greater environment, as well as their understanding of the importance of sustainability. Our three play areas feature a variety of natural and manmade elements including sandpits, vegie gardens, worm farm, compost bin, climbing equipment and lots of space and shade to run around.
Community connections
Our Storypark platform, family nights and newsletters enable us to stay in close contact with parents and families, ensuring open and clear communication. This also means we can tailor each program to the child’s individual needs, interests and strengths – as well as the strong level of cultural diversity in our centre.
Adding to the sense of community we have regular incursions as well as excursions and we actively participate in community events. Through this, we can deepen the relationship between the centre and the community, while teaching the children about being a contributing and active member of society.
Feeding curious minds
We are proud to offer a nutritionally nationally balanced, 4-week rotating menu across all rooms. We celebrate diversity and an understanding of many different cultures and ensure this is reflected in our menu so every child feels seen and represented through sharing dishes they enjoy at home with their friends.
Drop in and say hello!
There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a child learn with passion and wonder, and we nurture this at our centre. We would love to make you and your family welcome and the centre and discuss how we can start your child on a journey of lifelong learning.
I hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and have been in the industry for over 12 years - 11 of those as a Centre Director. I have experience working with children from birth to 12 years old.
I believe children are confident and capable learners, and we need to facilitate their learning by providing activities and experiences that are engaging and extend their interests. I love seeing children grow and supporting their love of learning. I am keen to make a positive impact in every child’s life at our early education centre.
Attending an early childhood education and care centre provides many benefits. Children have the chance to socialise with other children of not only their own age but across all age groups. They have access to dedicated group learning opportunities such as story time, activities, learning programs, show and tell, specialised programs, visitors from the local community and so much more.
We build and maintain a good relationship with our families through meaningful face-to-face discussions and comprehensive regular updates on their child’s progress, listen to feedback and take action based on it.
Health and safety are extremely important and a priority for us at University Drive, Mill Park. We ensure all measures and protocols are in place and followed, including risk assessments, supervisions plans, management plans, policies and procedures.
My team are professional and nurturing. We provide a comprehensive tour that explains all childcare centre information and learning programs, introduces our environments and team, and answers any questions the family might have.
I cannot wait to meet your family and begin this exciting journey with you.
