Townsville teacher's tips on regional work and living
Early childhood teacher Kylie Ryan of Goodstart Kirwan Golf Links Drive shares her insights.
Goodstart Early Learning Burnside is a 90 place child care centre that caters for children aged six weeks to six years.
There are six rooms: two Nursery Rooms, two Toddler Rooms, a Prekinder and Kinder Room. Our Kindergarten Educator holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Learning.
We have three spacious outdoor playgrounds and there is a large variety of equipment to facilitate active play.
We have a qualified Centre Cook who prepares hot, nutritious meals each day. We cater to dietary alternatives for children who have allergies to dairy, egg and wheat. We are a nut free – egg free centre. Meals provided each day are breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack.
At Goodstart Burnside, all our Educators have First Aid qualifications as well as Anaphylaxis and Asthma management training.
We celebrate a variety of occasions and community events throughout the year: Chinese New Year, Red Nose Day, Jeans for Genes Day, Daffodil Day, Crazy Hair Day, Pyjama Day, Diwali, AFL Week, Mother's and Father's Day, Easter and Christmas. Invitations are extended to parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents for some of these special celebrations.
Our child care educators pride themselves on delivering a fun and educational learning experience for each child in their care. They work hard to ensure strong friendships are built and flourish during a child's day at Goodstart Early Learning Burnside.
I have been working at this centre for over 17 years, I have performed is different roles from Group leader, Assistant Director and now Centre Director.
I am not merely an early childhood educator, I am an early childhood educator of children, I believe that each child is an individual and as an educator I will value and develop each child's strengths, interests, skills, abilities, and knowledge to extend their learning. Children need the assurance of being loved and cared for while they are enjoying an educational environment. Security and trust are very important components as well, as my relationship with each child and their families.
I believe that as the Centre Director building trust with families is a top priority so that families feel valued and respected, feel comfortable to ask questions or express concerns and have increased confidence in the service. I believe that communication with families is a key part of building relationships with families, through communication I can find out the type of information that is important to them.
