Townsville teacher's tips on regional work and living
Early childhood teacher Kylie Ryan of Goodstart Kirwan Golf Links Drive shares her insights.
Tucked away in a quiet, leafy pocket of Bundoora, our small centre offers a big sense of belonging.
Our play-based, nature-inspired education provides diverse learning opportunities from nursery to kindergarten.
Through garden visits, outdoor exploration, and bush kinder, we support children in growing their confidence, curiosity, and connection to the world around them.
We're proud of our strong community ties and meaningful relationships with families, schools and local groups.
Why not take a tour and see our cosy 60-place service firsthand? Experience a warm, homely atmosphere where every child is known and nurtured. Our close-knit team of educators would love to show you around.
At Goodstart Bundoora – Bendoran Crescent, we believe learning flourishes when children are supported emotionally, socially and developmentally.
That's why we focus on creating calm, caring spaces that foster resilience and independence – whether children are exploring the veggie patch, splashing in puddles or preparing for their transition to school.
Our educators use the EYLF and VEYLDF frameworks to ensure each child experiences success and belonging.
Plus, with our strong ties to local schools, we help make the step to Prep smooth and confident.

At Goodstart Bundoora – Bendoran Crescent, our philosophy centres around the belief that every child is a unique individual with their own interests and strengths. We embrace a play-based learning approach that nurtures curiosity and creativity, allowing children to explore their world in meaningful ways.
We prioritise:
Through our philosophy, we aim to create a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive and become confident, capable learners.
Children need to feel safe and supported to learn and grow, so we promote key educator relationships between our educators and children. Your child will have at least one educator (their key educator) who takes them under their wing and really gets to know them.
Our Key Educator relationships help children form secure attachments. Educators work closely with smaller groups and individual children to better understand each child. These relationships lead to improved outcomes for children as we foster more communication between families and educators.
We inform families regularly about their child's progress and welcome family involvement in our centre events and activities.
At our Bundoora – Bendoran Crescent centre, we're proud to inspire your child's love of learning with the support of our passionate and qualified early childhood experts. Teachers with bachelor's degrees run our three and four-year-old kindergarten program, so children can be well on their way to excellent learning outcomes by the time they start school.
At Goodstart, we believe all children deserve the best possible start in life, which includes access to high-quality early childhood education and care. We offer:
Discounts on multiple days
All day sessions
Discounted shorter sessions
Fee assistance programs for families that need support
We work closely with parents to ensure the individual needs, interests and strengths of children are considered, and our learning goals reflect them. Using Storypark, a wonderful communication platform, we stay in close touch with families and ensure you're well informed about your child's development and achievements.

Fantastic early learning childcare centre. My son began in the toddler room and is now in the 3 year old kinder room. During that time the incredible Educators have continued to be friendly, approachable, passionate and dedicated to the learning and development of the Children. When my son began his journey the Educators when out of their way to make him feel safe and comfortable in the amazing environment created. The development and confidence he has gained is all due to the amazing Educators and the support they continue to given him. Special thanks the Rachel and Liz who do an amazing job behind the scene. Keep it up everybody and thank you.
I have been with Goodstart Early Learning for 20 years, I have spent 18 of those years as centre director at various goodstart centres.
I hold my Diploma in Early Childhood and Diploma in community services (as this is one of my passions). Through this study I strive to strengthen my community connections and create a space to be able to support families with seeking community support.
I believe in leading my team through creating safe environments, open discussions and empowering my team to share their strengths, building learning relationships and working collaboratively.
In relation to children, I strive to create environments where children are included in decision making, empowering the exploration of autonomy and inclusivity. Children are capable beings, and this is the vision I share with my team.
Inclusivity and equality are two of my core values, we implement these values through creating environments that meet the needs and requirements of all families and children, from different walks of life.
To ensure duty of care is upheld, I continue to empower my team to build trusting relationships with the families and engage in a collaborative partnership. Families are encouraged to share their views, ideas and input, while also being welcome at the centre to share their culture and heritage.
Concepts such as ‘Key Educator Relationships’ are put in place to ensure relationships between families, educators and children are being nourished daily. As we aim to empower children to grow into capable adults, we engage in other ideas such as ‘Strive For Five’, this includes asking the children open ended questions and expanding on their input.
My leaderships style is shaped by The Victorian Child Safe Standards, National Law and Regulations and the National Quality Standards. All curriculum is influenced by Children’s Developmental Milestones, Early Years Learning Framework, Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework, family input and child interest.
