Townsville teacher's tips on regional work and living
Early childhood teacher Kylie Ryan of Goodstart Kirwan Golf Links Drive shares her insights.
Tucked away in a quiet pocket of Semaphore Park and just steps from Bower Cottage Community Centre, our centre offers a calm, caring, and inclusive early learning environment for children from nursery to preschool.
We're proud of our small-scale, family-first approach, where trusted relationships and consistency in care give children the confidence to grow and explore.
Our team is stable and dedicated. There has been no staff turnover in the past two years, and our long-serving educators truly know the children.
From hands-on outdoor learning to genuine community connections, this is a place where children feel safe, supported and celebrated. Take a tour – we’d love to show you around.
Children thrive in our indoor and outdoor spaces, including an Aboriginal garden bed co-created with families and local Elder Uncle Tamaru.
Our learning is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and supported by two qualified teachers in our preschool program.
Regular excursions, local partnerships, and community events deepen children's understanding of the world while fostering belonging and curiosity.
We'd love to welcome you and your child into our community. Book a tour today to meet our passionate team and experience our warm, inclusive environment.
At Goodstart Semaphore Park, our philosophy centres around the belief that every child is a unique individual with their own interests and strengths. We embrace a play-based learning approach that nurtures curiosity and creativity, allowing children to explore their world in meaningful ways.
We prioritise:
Through our philosophy, we aim to create a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive and become confident, capable learners.
Children need to feel safe and supported to learn and grow, so we promote key educator relationships between our educators and children. Your child will have at least one educator (their key educator) who takes them under their wing and really gets to know them.
Our Key Educator relationships help children form secure attachments. Educators work closely with smaller groups and individual children to better understand each child. These relationships lead to improved outcomes for children as we foster more communication between families and educators.
We inform families regularly about their child's progress and welcome family involvement in our centre events and activities.
At Goodstart, we believe all children deserve the best possible start in life, which includes access to high-quality early childhood education and care. We offer:
We work closely with parents to ensure the individual needs, interests and strengths of the children are considered, developing learning goals to reflect the same. Using StoryPark, a wonderful communication platform, we stay in close touch with families and ensure they are well informed about their children’s development and achievements.
