Townsville teacher's tips on regional work and living
Early childhood teacher Kylie Ryan of Goodstart Kirwan Golf Links Drive shares her insights.
Our early learning and long day care centre is on Portrush Road near Greenhill Road, opposite Burnside Village and Library.
Ours is a smaller, extra-nurturing service for just 37 children built on Kaurna land. Discover our three rooms: a nursery for babies, a toddler learning space for adventurous explorers, and a preschool classroom, where we deliver a teacher-led curriculum and get children ready for school.
Why not book a tour and see for yourself? Our team would love to show you around.
We’re in an unbeatable location, just a short drive from Linden Park Reserve and St Andrews Hospital.
Our centre has a diverse team with many educators speaking a second language, which helps our multicultural families feel at home.
You can meet Mandarin, Malay, Tamil, Italian, German, Sinhala, Indonesian, Swahili, Hungarian, and French speakers on your tour. Multiple languages add to children’s rich experience at our centre, where they also learn Indigenous words.
While we are a small centre, two bachelor’s degree-qualified early childhood teachers lead our preschool curriculum. Our team is longstanding, with many of our experienced educators working with Goodstart for between nine and 20+ years!
Most of all, we pride ourselves on being supportive and nurturing. Thanks to our beautiful staff, the centre has a real family-like feeling.
We go above and beyond to provide children with engaging experiences through incursions and excursions. Once a month, we host a dance and movement experience onsite, as well as regular dental visits. We take the children on excursions to our local gardens, aged care facility, Burnside Village and the library.
Our beautiful centre has benefitted from lots of recent renovations and improvements. We’ve installed new secure fencing, new outdoor veranda roofing, paving, painting, a brand-new play area, and fresh outdoor turf.
When you enrol with us, your child can enjoy everything we have to offer. We can’t wait to show you the Goodstart Linden Park difference.
At Goodstart Linden Park, our philosophy centres around the belief that every child is a unique individual with their own interests and strengths. We embrace a play-based learning approach that nurtures curiosity and creativity, allowing children to explore their world in meaningful ways.
We prioritise:
Through our philosophy, we aim to create a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive and become confident, capable learners.
Children need to feel safe and supported to learn and grow, so we promote key educator relationships between our educators and children. Your child will have at least one educator (their key educator) who takes them under their wing and really gets to know them.
Our Key Educator relationships help children form secure attachments. Educators work closely with smaller groups and individual children to better understand each child. These relationships lead to improved outcomes for children as we foster more communication between families and educators.
We inform families regularly about their child's progress and welcome family involvement in our centre events and activities.
At our Linden Park centre, we're proud to inspire your child's love of learning with the support of our passionate and qualified early childhood experts. Teachers with bachelor's degrees run our preschool program, so children can be well on their way to excellent learning outcomes by the time they start reception.
At Goodstart, we believe all children deserve the best possible start in life, which includes access to high-quality early childhood education and care. We offer:
We work closely with parents to ensure the individual needs, interests and strengths of children are considered, and our learning goals reflect them. Using Storypark, a wonderful communication platform, we stay in close touch with families and ensure you're well informed about your child's development and achievements.

As you’d know all too well, the most important feeling for a child going into a new environment is to feel safe, happy, nurtured, respected and to be given the support to grow, explore and be themselves. I feel this centre does this right. We are always greeted with a warm welcome and a smile, even on your toughest days as educators. We’d like to thank you for patience, genuineness, passion and enthusiasm with the children and for making her year a happy, fun and memorable one.
I am very fortunate to lead a highly qualified, professional and dedicated team of educators who share my passion for believing that children are central to everything we do.
Here at Goodstart Linden Park we believe that every child is unique. We focus on building a strong supportive relationship with families and working alongside with you to provide the highest quality program for your child.
I strongly believe that children should be given the best possible start in life and in providing children a fun, welcoming and caring environment.
I look forward to meeting you and your family. Come in and say hello so that we can start this amazing journey together!
