About our centre
Goodstart Early Learning Child Care Centre Gateshead is located close to Lake Macquarie and Charlestown, in a residential area close to local shops, schools and public transport, as well as community facilities.
We offer a long daycare service that operates Monday to Friday between 7.00am and 6.00pm, with 86 places, and six rooms - Nursery, Toddlers, and Kindergarten / Preschool.

We provide children with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, as well as wipes and nappies.
Our rooms are all set up in line with an Early Years Learning Framework, with sensory and play based learning opportunities. Colourful, stimulating surrounds ensure the children have the chance to grow and develop through sensory, play-based learning.
Our Storypark platform, as well as regular family nights and emailed newsletters, enable us to stay in close contact with parents and families, ensuring open and clear communication. This also means we can tailor each program to the child’s individual needs, interests and strengths – as well as the strong level of cultural diversity in our centre.
Outside, we have three areas all with age appropriate play spaces and equipment. We have a number of playground elements from dry creek beds, to sandpits, gardens, a worm farm, vege and herb patches, a bridge, lots of shade and a balance of manmade and natural play surfaces.

Relationships with children are the foundation of our philosophy. Each child is assigned a ‘key educator’ who will make every effort to develop a secure relationship with them as quickly as possible. ‘Key educators’ are also responsible for possessing an in depth knowledge of each child’s routine, personality, interests, and development. They involve families in their decision making to achieve best outcomes for children.
Community is also important to us and through visits to the centre and participation in events and activities throughout the year we are able to enrich the learning experience. Art and music experiences are provided on a daily basis which allow the children to freely express their creativity.

Centre Director
Hi there, my name is Sarah Goswell and I’m the Centre Director here at Goodstart Gateshead.
I started my career in the Early Childhood sector in 2010 starting with Mission Australia Early Learning who is now an integral part of Goodstart and I have been a member of the Gateshead team since August 2021.
I believe in creating and providing natural and diverse environments that are enriching and promote children’s learning skills and interests.
I believe children should be provided with opportunities that challenge them to not only improve their skills but also assist them to develop at their own pace.
I believe in open communication between families and educators and pride myself on being able to maintain relationships.
I am honest, transparent, kind, compassionate and considerate and the children, families and educators is what makes me strive to be the best role model, leader, and friend I can be and to bring out the best in all people.
